About us
“Masakhane” — let us build together.
A voluntary society of members, founded to save and invest collectively and to support one another in times of need.
Who we are
Masakhane Investment Society is an unincorporated voluntary association operating as a stokvel — a trusted South African tradition of pooling money for shared benefit. We are run by an elected Administration on behalf of every member, guided by a written constitution.
Why Masakhane was created
The founders came together in the spirit of “Masakhane”, meaning let us build together. The goal was simple: turn small, regular contributions into real financial strength, and make sure no member faces life’s hardest moments alone.
How the society works
Members join one or more of our three Clubs and contribute monthly. Savings are invested for growth and paid out annually in January; the livestock club buys stock for a shared year-end harvest; and the burial society provides dignified cover. Everything is recorded, valued and reported back to members.
Our commitment to transparency
Fees, rules, waiting periods and the investment approach are published openly. Members receive statements, and the portfolio is valued each December so payouts are fair and traceable.
Our mission
To help ordinary people build extraordinary financial resilience through disciplined, collective investing and mutual support.
Our vision
A community where every member and their family enjoys dignity, security and steadily growing wealth.
Our objectives
Save with discipline, invest for growth, protect one another, and administer every rand with honesty and care.

Our products
Three Clubs, one community
Choose the Clubs that fit your goals. Join one, or combine all three for saving, provision and protection.
Savings & Investment Club
Disciplined monthly saving, invested in market-linked assets and paid out annually in January. Your money works while it waits.
The strategy: contributions are invested across a diversified portfolio of global and local indices. The portfolio is valued each December, and payouts follow in January. A performance cap keeps payouts fair across members (see Investing).

Required documents:
Claims are lodged with the Administration and paid once documents are verified and the waiting period is met.
Cattle & Sheep Club
Group contributions towards livestock for a year-end slaughter and fair distribution among members.
How it works: members contribute towards a shared livestock fund. The Club uses collective buying power to purchase quality cattle and sheep, which are prepared and distributed to members for the festive season. A small levy covers administration.
The benefit: better prices than buying alone, guaranteed meat for your family at year-end, and none of the logistics on your shoulders.

Investment strategy
Diversified. Disciplined. Transparent.
Members’ savings are invested across leading global and local indices, balancing growth with sensible diversification.
Why diversify
Spreading savings across three markets means no single economy or currency decides your outcome. Global growth and local strength balance one another.
The 7% payout cap
Annual payouts are capped at 7%. Returns earned above the cap are retained by the Society to build reserves and smooth future payouts — protecting members in leaner years.
January payouts
The portfolio is valued in December and payouts follow in January — a deliberate cushion for the toughest month of the year.
⚠ Investment risk disclosure
Market-linked investments can rise and fall in value. Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns, and capital is not guaranteed. The Society and its Administration do not accept liability for market losses. Members invest on the understanding that returns vary year to year.
